NY-NJ rail port project to improve Midwest reach

Riding a 14.5 percent increase this year in rail traffic, the Port of New York and New Jersey in the coming weeks will open a new intermodal terminal and extensive related track upgrades as it seeks to boost the port’s share of discretionary cargo headed for the Midwest. The $149 million off-dock terminal at GCT Bayonne, the port’s fourth rail terminal, accompanies an extensive, $59 million project to upgrade the tracks in and around the area to ensure cargo fluidity in and out of the new terminal as cargo volumes through the area rise.
